What is happening in the photo?

Family and friends of the Conlons on an outing to the Gettysberg War Memorial site photographed beside the monument dedicated to the Irish Brigade, 1960s.

The Irish Brigade was one of the legendary units of the American Civil war. The memorial consists of a 19′ 6″ tall Celtic cross with a life-sized Irish Wolfhound at it’s foot, symbol of honour and fidelity.

Children Kevin & Seán are to the front right. Also pictured are Marina Conlon (far right), Hugh McDermott (centre) and Frank Houlihan.

Photographer unknown. Digital scan from Black & White Silver Gelatin print.
