What is happening in the photo?

Siblings Antoinette, Marie, Shae and Thomas, on a family outing to Rush beach, in the early 1950’s. Rush is a small seaside town in Fingal, that lies between Skerries and Lusk. The area is rich with ancient artefacts; the discovery of flint tools and a passage grave indicates that the area was inhabited by settlers during the Neolithic age, and a promontory fort in the area is thought to belong to the Bronze age. The area also contains Martello Towers, built in 1803 to defend the land from Napoleon.
